Srinagar: Mysterious demolition of couple of shops during the dead of the night sparked protest in Baghat-e-Kanipora area of Chadoora town while as a mark of protest traders observed a shutdown demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
Eyewitnesses said that shopkeepers at Baghat-e-Kanipora staged a protest after they found their shops dismantled with goods lying in scattered form on the road.
The affected shopkeepers including Showkat Bhat, Faisal Sidique, Khurshid Mir and Mubashir Maqbool Bhat alleged that the real owner of the shop used some brokers to dismantle our shops so that we could vacate from there. We have been paying rent for these shops in time from past six years but the land owner Nisar Sofi while taking law in his own hands utilized the resources of paid brokers and demolished our shops, they said.
Which law permits an land lord to loot the goods and throw them on roads, the protestors said.
Police confirmed the incident and said that a case has been registered in this regard. We have registered an FIR vide number 59/2014 and investigation has been taken up, Station House Officer Nowgam Rashid Ahmed said.
