SRINAGAR: Even as the J&K Congress is set to go it alone in the forthcoming elections in the state, ripples of infighting have surfaced within the only cadre-based national party of Jammu and Kashmir.
Choudhari Lal Singh, who has resigned from the party, on Monday alleged that top leaders of the state congress had worked at the cross purposes during the parliament elections held in April, May this year. He has ‘predicted’ a catastrophic defeat for Congress in the elections and said the party would soon collapse.
“Ghulam Nabi Azad left no stone unturned in forcing Soz to leave the Congress party. Azad ditched him and hatched a conspiracy against him in New Delhi. That is why Soz wanted to see Azad lose elections,” CNS quoted Lal Singh as said.
Lal Singh, who is a member of Parliament on Congress ticket, has accused Azad of over-lording and authoritative. ” Azad wanted to see every Congress leader meekly submit before him . I have my vote bank and support and I am not among those who will be always at Azads beck and call, Singh said while blaming Azad for Congress party’s historic defeat in recent parliament elections.
Sharing poll planning of the Congress party, Singh said, Azad had assured the party high command that he will work to ensure Congress victory on all the seats and insisted that he should be allowed to contest from Doda but he actually worked for his own seat and shamefully lost, Sing said adding that Ambika Soni, a Congress veteran, had told him that Azad had a managed a delegation of senior party men from Doda who advocated that Azad be given the ticket. “Ambika Soni never lies and she exposed Azad.”
The two-time MP further said state Congress president Professor Saifuddin Soz was sure that Azad would taste defeat in the parliament election. Soz wanted to see Azad losing the election and it was this factor that prompted Soz to ignore me because he (Soz) was sure that Lal Singh would make it from the Constituency, the news agency quoted him as said.
Choudhry Lal Singh further said that Congress was at the brink of defeat and collapse because all its leaders in the state were involved in internal bickering.
Congress has long been mired in the infighting and its top leaders have been seen openly jockeying for power. The discord and bickering appears more prominently on important functions such as the birth anniversary of the Congress mascot M K Gandhi. On these occasions, the leaders such Tara Chang, Sham Lal, Azad and Soz used to hold parallel functions.
