Srinagar: Doctors and paramedics staged protests on Monday demanding the immediate removal and arrest of Director Health Kashmir Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman who along with his subordinates has been accused of sexual assault by a staff nurse.
The protestors mostly nursing staff assembled in the premises of SMHS hospital Srinagar and staged a peaceful protest demanding arrest and the immediate removal of the accused named in the First Information Report. The protest was organized by Doctors Association of Kashmir.
Shouting slogans, they demanded that Director Health be arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a staff nurse he had called to his office.
Dr. Nissar-ul-Hassan, who heads Doctors Association Kashmir told reporters that the protests would continue till the accused was arrested and given exemplary punishment. The accused must be arrested. They are using their power and influence to save their skin. When an FIR stands registered against the accused then they all should be arrested without any delay. It is irony that government is not taking action against the accused and Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman and other accused continue to occupy their posts, he said.
Pertinently, a staff nurse lodged a complaint in police station Shaheed Ganj alleging that Director Health and his accomplices including CMO Anantnag Dr Nazir Shadad, BMO Sallar Dr Arshid Tak and Medical Superintendent Seer Dr Ashraf Paddar tried to assault her sexually.
Meanwhile Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Salim-ur-Rehman, Monday stated that he was open to any kind of probe and was ready to cooperate with the investigating agency with regard to molestation charges leveled against him by a staff nurse. He appealed media community and civil society to make their own in-depth investigation and extract the truth without any favor or bias.
The said lady had entered the room on her own without being called or invited in any capacity in person. The moment she entered the room there were around nine people which included senior most officers of the department ,female officers and other people who do not belong to the Department. She interacted with me in presence of senior officers. It was only when she confirmed her placement and introduced herself as spouse of one of the doctor working at PHC Khiram, I recognized her and asked her to narrate her grievance. She had nothing to say. She said she worked at Ashmuqam and had been sent by CMO Anantnag. I told her she need not to come here and go back to join her duties. I didnt move out of my chair and she also left in no time in presence of the above persons, Dr Saleem told a newsgathering agency .
