Srinagar: Amid curfew, thousands of people Monday participated in the funeral prayers of two local Lashkar-e-Toiba militants killed during a gunfight with government forces in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Kakapora area of Pulwama district.
Two local LeT militants Bilal Ahmed Lone aka Bilal Molvi resident of Lelhar and Mudasir Ahmed Shiekh of Kisrigam Kakapora were killed in a gun fight with forces on Sunday evening. Police handed over the bodies to locals at around 10 pm on Sunday, however, people decided to lay them in rest on Monday.
Sensing trouble, authorities imposed curfew and restrictions while police sealed all the restive points and restricted the movement of the mourners.
The funeral procession was held in Kakapora and later the bodies of the two militants were taken in a procession to their respective areas.
Eyewitnesses said that amid curfew and restrictions people from Ratnipora, Reshipora, Pohu, Barsoo and other areas proceeded towards Lelhar and assembled in large numbers at cricket stadium Lelhar.
Amid pro-freedom slogans, thousands of mourners participated in the last rites of Bilal Molive. Similarly, large number of people from adjacent areas including Laru, Naman, Narbal, Newa and Hasanwani and participated in the last rites of another LeT militant Mudasir Ahmed Shiekh who was laid to rest at his ancestral martyrs grave yard at Kisrigam.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Kakapora and other areas parts to mourn the death of militants. All shops and business establishments remained closed in Kakapora and adjacent areas.
