Srinagar: People in Qaimoh area of South Kashmirs Kulgam district Tuesday observed shutdown and took to streets in protest against the arrest of a 17-year-old student.
Family members of Dawood Gul son of Gul Muhammad Shiekh resident of Qaimouh Kulgam was arrested by police a fortnight ago and even after he was bailed by the Court police did not release him.
Reports said that scores of people took to streets in Quimoh and blocked the Anantnag-Kulgam road. The protestors amid anti-police and anti-government slogans burnt down the abandoned car wheels on the road and demanded the immediate release of the student.
My son was implicated in a false case. He is not a stone-pelter. His continuous detention is taking a toll on his studies, he father said.
A top police official said that Dawood is a notorious stone-pelter and he is wanted in different cases of arson and violence.
Meanwhile Kulgam town remained shut till noon against the killing of two LeT local militants in Nowpora village of Frisal area of Kulgam.
