12th PSA against Kashmir’s ‘rage boy’

Family pleads Shakeel never resorted to violence

Kulgam: Family of a  Kashmiri youth, dubbed by some foreign media as ‘Islamic Rage Boy’ , Wednesday said the authorities have slapped scores of charges on him and booked him under the draconian Public Safety Act, now the twelfth time.

Shakeel Ahmed Bhat resident of Malik Angan Fateh Kadal Srinagar was arrested in 2009 for orchestrating anti-police protests.

“12th PSA has been slapped on Shakeel despite the fact the he never resorted to violence or stone-pelting,” the family members said.

They strongly criticized authorities for framing fabricated charges and slapping of PSA against Shakeel Ahmad Bhat. The family alleged that Shakeel’s detention was motivated by political considerations of the authorities.

They said that right from 1994 Shakeel remained most of the time under custody. “An injury to his right arm as a result of the torture had left him unable to lift anything and authorities take him as a threat,” they said and appealed the authorities to release Shakeel Ahmed without any delay.

Muhammad Shafi Resi, affiliated with Hurriyat Conference G, has condemned Shakeel’s prolonged detention.
