SRINAGAR: National Conference today termed PDP LS candidate for Srinagar, Tariq Karra as the epitome of rank opportunism and political waywardness.
Party spokesman Junaid Mattu in a statement said that Karra was as non-serious a politician as one could possibly find in the country.
Mattu said that it was hilarious how Karra, after being refused admission into National Conference, now suddenly has found conviction in the “clear agenda” of PDP. Karra, PDP’s candidate from the Srinagar Parliamentary Seat had till very recently relentlessly tried to gain admission into National Conference.
However his repeated pleas to be taken into the party were not entertained by NC given his track-record of instability and opportunism. He had apparently filed an actual application for admission with the local Congress Committee too and was rejected there as well. Facing a humiliating refusal from both parties Karra’s bitterness and frustration as shown by his random utterances is understandable. However, his self-righteousness contradicts his track-record and political past.
The NC Spokesman said that Karra besides showing hypocrisy has exhibited shameful ungratefulness towards not just Dr. Farooq Abdullah but also National Conference. It was Karra’s Uncle, Mohuiddin Karra who had come to Dr. Farooq Abdullah with Karra as a young boy and entrusted him to Dr. Farooq, asking that he be groomed and nurtured in politics. What Dr. Farooq Abdullah did for Tariq Karra and how ungrateful and shameless Karra turned out to be is a question best left to the conscience of Karra.
Mattu said that Karra is a chronic flip-flopper and has been connected to National Conference, Awami National Conference as well as Congress at various times in the past. His current innings with PDP was aptly rewarded by the voters when he lost his Batamaloo Assembly Seat as the Ex-Finance Minister of the State. Before preaching and lecturing about “change”, Karra should first clear his role in the infamous Forest Land Scam and talk about his indictment in the Kundal Committee Report. It is a known fact that Karra’s tenure as the Finance Minister of the State was an utter disappointment at all levels and was marred by financial irregularities and rampant corruption in his department.
Terming Dr. Farooq Abdullah as a strong and visionary leader who has always shown consistency and political conviction, Mattu said that PDP had failed to find a candidate of merit for the Srinagar Parliamentary Seat who could measure up to Dr. Abdullah’s leadership and stature and had hence conceded defeat even before the contest.
