Families evacuated after landslides hit Baramulla village

Baramulla: A three-story house collapsed due to incessant rains in Dangerpora village in Baramulla district last night forcing other villagers to vacate the area.

Residents said that due to incessant rains a three-storey house belonging to Ghulam Muhammad Naiko’s collapsed yesterday at 11 pm.

After the incident, panic and fear gripped the area as landslides occurred at various places which forced 15 families to evacuate and move towards safer place.

“A house collapsed due to landslide. We have evacuated the family members and other fifteen families have been shifted to safer places keeping in view the danger posed by the landslides,” Station House Officer, Nasir Ahamd said. He, however, added that no one was injured in the incident.

Residents said that incessant rain has caused damaged to nearly five acres (forty kanals) of agricultural land in the area. They appealed government to rehabilitate them and alleged that the authorities, so far, had not paid any attention towards them.
