Will follow Vajpayee on Kashmir: Modi

SRINAGAR: The BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Wednesday pledged to carry forward policies of veteran party leader and former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee,  vis-à-vis Kashmir.

Addressing an election rally at Hira Nagar near Jammu, Modi stated that the path shown by Vajpayee shall be followed with zeal and zest. He also promised that democracy and Kashmiriyat were the main priorities of Vajpayee during his stint as the prime minister of the country.

Modi stated that if the NDA government could have sustained for another term, the face of Kashmir would have been different and the problems being faced by the people here would have ended.

Pertinently, Modi arrived in the state on Wednesday to pay obeisance at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. He later addressed the rally at Hira Nagar. This was the second rally of Modi in the state after being nominated as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.

‘Lotus will bloom in Jammu and Kashmir’

Modi said that had Abdullah’s been present at his rally, they would have realized which way the wind is blowing in the state.

Modi said that he was proud to commence the BJP poll campaign from a land where people have laid down their lives for the country. “I have first bowed my forehead at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and I am now bowing my head before the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

He said that  “sweeping winds of change were already visible” in Jammu and Kashmir. “Whether it is Jammu, Kashmir or Ladakh, the wind has turned. This time, the lotus will bloom here.”

While raising the issue of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and also the deaths of soldiers on the India-Pakistan border, Modi said that “terrorists didn’t just kill people in Jammu and Kashmir, they attacked Kashmiriyat and struck at the core of humanity.”

He said that Lal Bahadur Shastri said ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’, but Congress’ slogan today is ‘Mar Jawan, Mar Kisan’.”

Castigating Congress as well as Aam Aadmi Party over Kashmir issue, Narendra Modi said that his party is the only option for the country and the country would witness all round progress in case BJP occupies power at the Centre. “There are three people who are being praised in Pakistan – they are three AKs – AK 47, AK Antony and AK 49.”

“This AK-49 in his website shows Kashmir as a part of Pakistan. And his close aide wants referendum in Kashmir,” he added.

“Give me 60 months to be a watchman for the country. For 60 years you have chosen rulers, choose a servant for 60 months,” said Modi.
