Srinagar: Five days have passed, but the there is no trace of the teenage girl who had jumped into river Jhelum from Amira Kadal last week.

On Wednesday evening, an 8th standard girl from Batmaloo locality of civil lines area jumped into Jhelum from city’s busy Amira Kadal.

Soon after the incident, the authorities pressed in action professional divers from police and fire and emergency services. However, they failed to locate the body. Later the personals of the navy were put into the service, but so far the body of the girl has not been retrieved.

The busy Amira Kadal has become one of the suicidal points in the city where many young boys and girls frequently jump into Jhelum.

There has been a considerable rise in suicides in Kashmir from past many years especially among women.

Experts have attributed the increase to the growing domestic violence, failure in relationships and study pressures.
