SRINAGAR: Lolab forests rattled with gunfire Saturday, nearly a week after seven suspected militants were killed in an encounter with the army in the dense forests.
The gunbattle was reported while combing operations were on to trace the remaining militants, officials in Kupwara said.
According to the reports received here, an army search party came under fire in upper reaches of Dardpora forest range Saturday resulting in a brief fire fight.
Police sources said militants numbering between 4-5 disappeared in the forests after the brief encounter.
Earlier on February 24 seven militants were killed in a fierce gunbattle as reported by army. Addressing the media at Lolab soon after wards army had claimed that some more militants could be present in the forests.
Last reports said army abandoned search operations at dusk.
