7 Killed in Lolab Encounter

SRINAGAR: Army Monday claimed that seven top foreign militants were shot dead in an encounter in the forests of Lolab in frontier Kupwara district. 

Army personnel from 28 RR were on routine patrolling when they spotted a group of militants in Dardpora forest, an army official here said. The Army cordoned off a part of the forest, however, the militants fired upon the patrol party ensuing a fierce gun battle, they said. 

Brigadier Satbir Singh of sector 8 RR said that during the fierce gun battle, at least seven militants were killed while army suffered no casualty. 

“Army was able to eliminate 7 militants who are all foreigners. We had inputs about the presence of a group of militants in Lolab forest and today we achieved a major success,” he said adding, that the search operation was going on and there was every possibility that we may recover more bodies of militants”. 

Singh further said that army has recovered bodies of all the seven slain militants.

He however did not reveal their identity.
