Tainted Ex-Minister Gets Anticipatory Bail

JAMMU: The former Health Minister Shabir Ahmed Kahn, accused of molesting a senior lady doctor, was Tuesday granted anticipatory bail by Jammu and Kashmir High Court. 

Khan had last week filed an anticipatory bail application after the victim accused him of sexual assault inside his office chamber in Civil Secretariat here on January 28.

The Court said that Khan is liable for anticipatory bail as he ‘cooperated with the investigating agency’. 

Justice Janak Raj Kotwal granted the bail soon after his counsel B S Salathia moved the bail application before the court in Jammu.

The complainant lady doctor’s lawyer B A Bashir, assisted by Advocate Rafiq had vehemently argued against granting of the bail and stressed for immediate handcuffing of the former minister.

An FIR has already been registered against Khan at the Shaheed Ganj police station in Srinagar which was followed by issuance of an arrest warrant against him by chief judicial magistrate, Srinagar. Khan has already resigned from the government.

He had evaded arrest soon after the registration of a case against him vide FIR no 9/2014 under sections 354 and 509. Khan attended the Assembly proceeding after presenting himself before the Investigating Officer in Srinagar a few days before.
