SRINAGAR: Police Monday arrested two of their colleagues accused of abduction and robbery of two telecom officials in this capital city last week.
Official sources said that Hawaldar Raja Altaf Ahmad of Pahlipora Bonyar Uri (belt no 809, posted at 11 Security), and his Associate Constable Mushtaq Khan of Pringal Boniyar, Uri (belt no 2641/S), post at DPL Srinagar were arrested by police for abducting and robbing two officials of a private cellular company near Regal Chowk, in the heart of city on Friday last.
Swaroop Gupta, of New Delhi and Ram Prasad of Rajasthan, both officials of a leading cellular company were passing through Regal Chowk, when the cops in civvies had intercepted them. They had bundled the two non-locals in their Santro car (JKO2AF-1396) and took them to a nearby Jammu and Kashmir Bank ATM. On gun point, the cellular officials were forced to withdraw Rs 37,000.
A senior police official said that a day after burglary, the telecom officials lodged a complaint that two men, one in police uniform, abducted them and robbed them of Rs 37,000 on gunpoint. He said acting swiftly, police started investigation.
We achieved a breakthrough when we accessed the CCTV footage at the ATM counter, where the gunmen forced the complainants to withdraw money. As the investigations went on, it surfaced that both of them were from police department, the official said. The accused were arrested soon afterwards.
We have registered a case 14/2014 under section 392 RPC against the duo. Further investigations are in progress, the official said.
