Student beaten to death

SRINAGAR: A student was killed when he was attacked by an assailant with an iron rod in Baramulla on Monday. The death sparked off protests in the town.  

Police resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the protestors who were demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

Witnesses said the B.ed student Irshad Ahmed Ganair son of Ghulam Nabi and his friend Muzamil Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid of Ushkura Baramulla were thrashed by the assailant with an iron rod mercilessly near Ahmed Complex Baramulla on Monday morning.  The injured students were rushed to nearby hospital where Irshad Nabi succumbed while the assailant fled from the spot quickly. 

As the news of student’s death spread in the town, people came out on roads and staged a protest demanding immediate arrest of the killer. There was a instant shutdown against the incident in the town.

The agitated protestors pelted stones on police while police resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the protestors.

Meanwhile, police swung into action and arrested the alleged murderer, who has been identified as Imran Farooq Bhat of Mohalla Khawaja Sahib Baramulla.

“We have arrested a youth in this regard and investigation has been started to know why the deceased was attacked,” a police official told CNS adding that an FIR vide number 26/2014 under section 302 has been registered against the accused.
