Once again Kashmiris were in for a shock when some leaders announced the birth of one more Hurriyat Conference. Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan and Azam Inqulabi after their expulsion by Hurriyat (M) for the reasons not known to the people announced the formation of Hurriyat Conference Jammu & Kashmir.
What promoted the separatists to form another Hurriyat is a mystery and the leaders are morally bound to make the funda clear to the people as the people have suffered a lot over the years both economically and physically. Besides loss of life of thousands of innocent people which is considered to be the offshoot of their mismanagement, wrong policies and lack of leadership skill these leaders seem worried on;y about their own interests.
The trouble started following the formation of Hizbul Mujahedin after “HAJI” group of JKLF launched the militant movement in early ninties. Though their were some differences in the ideologies but that did not harm the cause. But the people associated with the cause did not lag behind the race in forming the countless outfits which brought tsunami within a short span of time. The people started to get confused with the change in the behavior of its leaders and it was difficult for a commoner to differentiate between separatists and the counter-insurgents. This led to chaos which proved detrimental for the basic cause. I do not understand if the goal is one then what makes them to open separate offices/ establishments? Is it chair, money or power or fashionable security cover that makes them do that? This is what people want to know from the separatists groups. This is imperative for Shabir, Azam and Nayeem, in particular, who made people more vulnerable for day to day excesses to make their position clear.
I think it is not judicious to make the administration or the security agencies accountable alone for the excesses on innocents. Separatists need for a change in their system which is the only way out for highlighting the peoples sentiments. If things continue this way and if the system is not streamlined the movement may go the LTTE way where people are massacred like sheep and goats due to the lack of leadership. Their is still time for the groups to have a deep thought on the issue and to honor the sentiments of the people for which every Kashmiri directly or indirectly made supreme sacrifices. Pertinent to mention here that the Hurriyat groups must say no to the govt security cover if they really fight for the cause,and I am at the same time thankful to the government/agencies for being so generous in providing security cover to the separatist leaders despite knowing the goal of the leaders which is not benefitial for the state or the country.
