SRINAGAR: Heavy snowfall has paralysed normal life in Srinagar and most parts of Kashmir valley with roads blocked and air traffic snapped. People in Srinagar are confined to indoors with most of the city roads blocked with snow.
No flight operated from or laned at Srinagar Airport and Srinagar Jammu highway remained blocked virtually cutting off Kashmir from the rest of the world.
Snowfall at the Banihal tunnel linking Jammu to Srinagar has caused disruption of traffic. An 18 inch thik layer of snow has covered areas around the tunnel, and it has been closed to traffic.
Patnitop witnessed one foot thick snowfall. Snowfall accompanied by intermittent rains continued on Wednesday morning, as hundreds of vehicles lined up along National Highway 1.
EXAMS POSTPONED: Following heavy snowfall in the Kashmir Valley, all the Kashmir University examinations scheduled for 22nd and 23rd of January 2014 have been postponed, KU spokesperson Showkat Shafi said.
He said the fresh dates will be notified seperatly.
