SRINAGAR: The Hurriyat Conference (M) has expressed satisfaction on the efforts of giving Indo-Pak relations a positive direction saying that it will not only speed up the chances of finding a resolution of Kashmir issue on priority basis but will also give new dimensions to the efforts of peace and stability in the whole South Asian region.
According to a Hurriyat (M) statement, a meeting of its executive council was held at Hurriyat Headquarters. The meeting was presided over by Professor Abdul Ghani Butt. The other participants included Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari, Bilal Lone, Mr. Musadiq Adil, and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza.
The political changes taking place in the sub-continent and the implications of these changes were discussed at length in the meeting.
The Executive council, however, stated that any process of resolution of Kashmir issue was not going to bear fruit without the participation and without taking into consideration the political aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
It was also stated that Hurriyat Conference considers the restoration of trade between Pakistan and India as a step towards the economic stability of the people of this region and there are ample chances of the expansion of the trade beyond the sub-continent to Central Asia and other regions of the world, however, in the absence of a peaceful atmosphere there were scant chances of flourishing of any trade and durable peace of the region was connected with the resolution of Kashmir issue.
While appealing the people of Jammu and Kashmir to observe complete shutdown on 26th January, it was stated that the claimants of democracy have suppressed the democratic and human rights of the people by brutal force and were placing stern curbs and restrictions on the activities and expression of the people as well as their leadership and thus strangulating their voice on the basis of the use of mere military force.
In the meanwhile Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed glowing tributes on the anniversary of Gowkadal martyrs saying that it was imperative for the success of the mission of martyrs and for the success of the movement to be consistent in our commitment towards the movement, and that was the only way to reach our goal. Mirwaiz has further said that the people of Kashmir have rendered great sacrifices for the movement and on 21ths January 1990 the way unarmed people were massacred in Gowkadal Srinagar by government forces, reminded us of the great sacrifices offered by the people for the cause of freedom and would always inspire us to continue our struggle for the accomplishment of the mission of the martyrs.
