Bandipore-Gurez road opens

SRINAGAR: Traffic was resumed on Bandipore-Gurez road, connecting dozens of far flung and remote area near the Line of Control (LoC) after remaining suspended for about a fortnight due to heavy snowfall.

Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Nazir Ahmad Gurezi personally supervised the snow clearance work on Bandipore Gurez road, which was thrown open for traffic this morning.

The traffic movement on the road was suspended after high altitude road stretch along Razdan Top was closed, following recent heavy snowfall.

The Minister, who was on a three-day tour to his home constituency covered two km distance on foot and inspected the condition of the road at Razadan Top and other trouble spots.

He said the closure of Bandipore-Gurez road during winter months affects developmental activities in Gurez and he was consistently pursuing the demand for construction of a tunnel so that the Gurez road remains open round the year.
