PDP legislator demands new district in Srinagar
Srinagar: As the cabinet Sub- Committee on administrative units held its meeting in Srinagar on Monday, the two senior leaders of ruling National Conference (NC) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) exchanged heated arguments over demands for carving out of a new district from district Srinagar.
The Cabinet Sub- Committee meeting over the creation of new administrative units in the state met here on Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minster Tara Chand. Besides state ministers, senior leaders and legislators of both NC and PDP attended the meet.
During the meeting, PDP senior leader and MLC Mohammad Ashraf Mir demanded creation of a new district out of the existing Srinagar city. He said that there should be two Nayabats for each constituency of this district.
This infuriated NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani leading to Mir walking out from the meeting. Mir said that he had put forth the demand before the cabinet sub- committee that Srinagar should have two district offices so that the people at large could be benefitted.
When there is a district office for two constituencies in Ganderbal, why there cant be two district offices for the eight constituencies of Srinagar, said Mir, adding that he also demanded that two Nayabts must be given to each constituency of the city.
Commenting on his tussle with NC provincial president, Mir said that Wani interrupted him several times during his speech and started discussing politics in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Wani told KNS that PDP was habitual of not accommodating other views and that it should learn politics before attending the meets. When Mir spoke, we didnt interrupt him but once we began to present our view on the issue, he started beating the drums, he said.
