Indian citizens kept in dark about Kashmir: Mirwaiz

Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) on Friday described Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a complete human being. He said that by emulating his teachings and sayings, one can develop his personality and would ultimately become good human being.

Addressing a special seerat Majlis organised by Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, in connection with the holy month of Rabiul Awal at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz said that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) gave man both the freedom to think and freedom to live. He further asserted that the freedom for which “we are longing for is only possible if we practically implement the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), in our lives”.

Throwing light over the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), he said that Prophet’s (SAW) (PBUH) arrival brought awakening, enlightenment, and word of Allah  to the world which was otherwise buried in the darkness of Jahiliya (ignorance).

Stressing that people of India are being deliberately kept ill-informed about Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz said they are being told that Indian army was for protection of people which was contrary to the realities existing on the ground.

Mirwaiz has appealed Indian people not to fall prey to the negative political propaganda of Indian political parties and try to know the actual ground situation in Kashmir. He said solution of Kashmir issue was in the interest of India since it can divert the huge money spending on defense for improving the life of millions of its people by providing them better education and healthcare.

Reacting to the recent statement of India’s external affairs minister that the country was ready to solve all issues with Pakistan except Kashmir, and Kashmir being an integral part of India, Mirwaiz said it was contrary to political realities and everybody knows Kashmir is the core issue between the two nuclear armed neigbours. He said the statement also contradicts the recent statement of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh where he said that India and Pakistan were close to finding a solution to  the Kashmir dispute.

Mirwaiz said Kashmir was a political issue and it can be only solved politically and not by intimidation or policies of suppression or by coercion and military force. Stressing that world was aware about the sufferings of Kashmiris, especially from past 25 years, APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that the global bodies like UN, NAM, and European Parliament knew that despite right to self determination granted by the UN, the Indian troops vested with special powers and draconian laws, have been given a legal license to freely oppress the masses by use of brutal force.

APHC Chairman said when APHC talks about Kashmir solution; it means a geographical entity existing on 1947 which represents all the ethnicities and religions of the state.
