‘Sham-i-Rasa’ organised at Jammu University

JAMMU:  Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather has said that noted poet and singer Abdul Qadoos Rasa Javidani was a multifaceted personality and legendary poet whose contribution to the State’s Urdu and Kashmiri literature can never be overbooked.

Speaking at an impressive function “Sham-i-Rasa” held in Jammu University this evening, Mr. Rather while paying rich tribute to Rasa Javidani said that not only  in J&K but he is held in high esteem in the whole sub-continent for his simple poetic expression with brotherhood, amity, peace and love its main theme. He said writings of late Rasa Javidani has left an indelible mark on the literary circles of the State adding that literary history of J&K shall be incomplete without his mention. He said Kulyat-e-Rasa Javidani, which was also released by him on the occasion, is a valuable addition to the State’s literary treasure. 

The function was jointly organised by the department of Urdu, University of Jammu, Rasa Javidani Momerial Society Jammu and Kashmir Adbi Markezi Fourm Jammu, at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium Jammu. The Chairman Kashmir Times Group of Publication Mr. Ved Bashin was Guest of Honour, whereas Mr. Tanveer  Ibn-i-Rasa, Prof Sukh Chain Singh , Head of Urdu Department University of Jammu Prof,. Shohab Anayat Malik and Aseer Kishtwari also shared the presidium.

The Minister vividly discussed the literary contribution of the Chenab Valley writers out of which Rasa Javidani had succeeded to attain a good name and fame in the Indo-Pak sub-continent. Commenting upon the “Kulyat-e-Rasa Javidani” which was earlier released by him in the function, Rather said that the late poet was a master in the art of writing poetry in Urdu and Kashmir languages. He also appreciated the efforts of Prof. Shohab  Inayat Malik and the Rasa Memorial Literary Society in promotion of Kashmiri and Urdu literature.

Ved Bashin, while recollecting his long association with Rasa Javidani said that he was an eminent literary figure of his time. “Rasa was a genius, honest and visionary person who was respected throughout the undivided India”, Bashin added. He asked the Rasa Javidani Memorial Society to continue its efforts to promote urdu and Kashmiri literature especially poetry of Rasa Javidani, who he said, has been  ignored on the political considerations.

Earlier, Prof Shohab in his welcome address said that Rasa Javidani was a born poet and a bossom friend of Hafiz Jalandhari. He said that with the establishment of the Rasa Javidani Memorial Literary Society Jammu  a strong literary movement has come into existence and the people of the sub-continent were able to know enough about Rasa Sahib and his sweet and meaningful poetry.

Mansoor Banihali presented his paper and said that Rasa Javidani was one of the surpassing romantic poet of the Kashmiri language, a literary luminary and an unparalleled personality of “Chota Kashmir”Bhaderwah.

Famous Singers Farooq Khokhar, Naseem-ul-Haq and Mubashir Rehmat added more colours to this beautiful evening by singing Urdu and Kashmir poems of Rasa Javidani which enthralled the jam packed audience.

The programme was conducted by noted writer and poet Asser Kishtwari.

A large number of literary personalities, artists, Scholars and students of Jammu University were present on the occasion.
