Srinagar: Lauding the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his visionary initiatives to make the state self reliant in the power sector, his political secretary Tanvir Sadiq on thursday while meeting with a delegation of prominent citizens who called on him said  “Omar’s dream is the dream of people of the State to relish 24 hour power supply and also export the surplus to other States of the Country which will be realized soon”, adding “Hydel Power Projects with 9,000 MW capacity have been targeted for execution during 12th and 13th Five Year Plans under the State, Centre and IPP sectors and this initiative would help the State to generate more power than is needed locally”

“Omar led government has laid the edifice in this regard and is firmly working on a roadmap to realize generation of 9000 MWs of power within next 7 to 8 years”, Tanvir told the delegation adding “The day is not far off, when we will generate surplus power”

Reiterating Omar’s mission to achieve energy sufficiency his political secretary said “His vision to bring economic autonomy to the State is linked with the harnessing of maximum of the 20,000 MW hydro power potential available in the State”

Castigating opposition PDP for their cheap theatrics Tanvir said “Let Modi’s admirers in PDP including their president come out with even one project that they had commissioned or had started in their regime”, “What they did with all the money and resources that was sanctioned by the GOI for the development of the state” asked Tanvir “they looted the state exchequer with both hands”

“The numbers of projects that are coming up are giving sleepless nights to the PDP and its leaders and as such they gather a handful of people and start spreading lies” said Tanvir.

“Omar Abdullah since the day he took over as Chief Minister of the State, focused on the indigenous generation of power utilizing the maximum of 20,000 MWs generation capacity available in the State, in a few years people will know what a great service Omar Abdullah has done for the state” said Tanvir adding “On Omar’s persuasion the Centre allotted 130 million ton coal block for Jammu and Kashmir, which would enable the state to generate 1,000 MW of power for 25 to 30 years”

Holistic development of Jammu and Kashmir and the welfare of its people is in the power development, as such, the Omar led government, has flagged power sector as one of the most important sectors in the State’s Policy Planning.

The political secretary while enumerating the number of power projects going on the J&K’s Flagship Project said that this should open the eyes of the opposition when they spread lies “450 MW BHEP-I was awarded in April 1999 during Dr Farooq Abdullah’s tenure and the project stands commissioned. Commissioning of the 450 MW Baglihar Stage-II would be an important milestone. 1200 MW Sawalkote with revised capacity 1856 MW was awarded in 2001 during Dr Farooq Abdullah’s tenure” adding “Ironically the contract was cancelled in 2006 by the PDP which was contested by the Consortium in the Hon’ble Court.

The Political secretary said that by awarding 690 MW Rattle HEP which has been revised to the  capacity of 850 MW through International competitive tariff based bidding process in June 2010, J&K has taken a lead in tariff based bidding. “The benefits to the State from the Project include 16 % free power, 55 % power at a level tariff of Rs 1.42 per unit and upfront premium of Rs 5 lacs per MW. The project shall revert to J&K after 35 years and is targeted for completion in 2017” said Tanir

Tanvir said “Kiru of 600 MW, Kawar of 520 MW and 1000 MW Pakaldull have been implemented in a Joint venture with JKSPDC, NHPC and PTC” adding that the agreement was signed in December 2010, keeping in mind the interest of the state first and safeguarding them”

“Pahalgam Hydel Electric Project’s newly approved 1.5 MW 3rd Unit which will increase the generation from present 14.92 MUs to 19.53 MUs” said Tanvir “The Drungi Micro Hydel Power Project has been set up, under IPP mode, with an investment of Rs 90 crore, and has an installed capacity of 3×3.33 MW” he said adding that projects for generation of 2,000 MW of hydro electricity have been cleared, and are under various stages of implementation.

Lashing out at the PDP for their misinformation campaign he said that after all these project what do they have to answer, it becomes our responsibility to expose these double faced leaders who suffer from senile dementia

“They want to divert the attention of people from progress and development by sowing the seeds of confusion and doubt in their minds”, he said and asked the people to beware of this kind of politics nurtured by a particular political group to fool the people and attempt at grabbing the power for vested interests.
