SRINAGAR: Security forces and state police personnel conducted random searchs of vehicles and frisking of people in the civil lines this afternoon.
We have received a tip-off that militants will try to carry out grenade or firing attack in the city, official sources said.
They said all the security force field commanders were asked to remain on alert to foil any such attack.
Militants who attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol party at Nowgam by-pass recently in which an officer was killed and another jawan injured, had used a vehicle.
Security forces were seen conducting random searchs of vehicles, particularly three wheelers and two wheelers at several places in the city, particularly in the civil lines. The identity cards of those driving and travelling in these vehicles were being checked before allowing them to go.
Pedestrians, particularly those carrying hand bags of polythene bags were frisked. People wearing ‘Pheran’ were also being frisked properly.
Sources said police believe that there is no militant in the city. However, some militants are infiltrating from outskirts into city and later fleeing back to their hideouts after carrying out attacks here. Agencies
