SRINAGAR: Union Minister and National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah Wednesday said that it is good people of Kashmir don’t like liquor.

“Thank God, people of Kashmir abhor liquor and don’t taste it,” Abdullah said while replying a question about voters being lured by wine and cash in Delhi.

“Wine is not good but cash is good. If somebody offers you cash then accept it but cast vote in favour of National Conference only,” Farooq Abdullah said in his typical style.

No indication of war: Farooq

Reacting to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s 4th war remarks, Dr Farooq Abdullah, National Conference patron and union minister on Thursday said there is no indication that Kashmir can trigger another war between India and Pakistan. He however, acknowledged that Kashmir is an issue which should be resolved expeditiously through a dialogue.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here at SP College, Dr Abdullah said: “I don’t think there is any indication of a war. But yes Kashmir is an issue which should be resolved through dialogue. The dialogue must start at the earliest so that the two neighboring countries develop a cordial relationship and focus on development and prosperity.”

NC patron said the statements of Pakistan leadership should not bother anyone as the same are given keeping the domestic political compulsions in view. “They will continue to issue such political statements as they to address their domestic political compulsions as well.”

Asked about the instances where Delhi police seized alcohol and money being distributed to buy votes, the NC patron said: “Thank God there are no takers for alcohol in Kashmir but if they distribute money that is good. As far as the money goes let me tell you that it is not their own but it is completely a black money they use to lure voters. I tell my people here if they are offered money take it again and again but vote for National Conference.”

On BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s call for abrogation of Article 370, Dr Abdullah said: “I have already made it clear that Modi or anybody else none can scrap the Article 370. If Modi wants to become   the Prime Minister, he cannot divide the country. He has to keep the country united.” He said that BJP is befooling people sometimes saying that it will construct temple and now they say it will scrap article 370.

Asked about the pre poll alliance between National Conference and the Congress for the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Dr Abdullah replied the NC working committee is yet to meet and decide about the pre-poll alliance. “Any decision on pre-poll alliance is to be taken by the NC working committee. And whenever it will meet, I will communicate about the decisions taken to you.
