SRINAGAR: At the time when Jammu and Kashmir High Court has tightened noose around the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to seal the illegal structure in the city, the government is likely to order a probe in to the civic body functioning right from 2002.
Reliable sources said that the government has taken serious note about the functioning of civic body as it remained in deep slumber for more than a decade and has waken only after the High Courts intervention. The government has decided to order a high level probe in to the malfunctioning of civic body, sources said.
Meanwhile sources said that despite the High Court orders most of the illegal structures and complexes owned by influential people are yet to be sealed or dismantled.
Sources in SMC also alleged that more illegal complexes have come up in Batamaloo, Soura and other areas in recent months.
All this is still continuing even after a report submitted to the government by a high level committee revealed that there are 2500 structures in Srinagar that have come up in total violation of master plan. The report said that 1100 buildings have come up without any permission and in gross violation of the law, sources added.
