Kishtwar: Former Minister and MLA Inderwal G.M.Saroori Thursday claimed that he caught General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) red handed while using substandard material for construction work on Thathri-Kishtwar road in Kishtwar district.
General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) is responsible for the construction of 200 KM Batote-Doda-Kishtwar-Sinthan road that is prone to road accidents.Saroori accompanied by district officials was on tour in his Inderwal Constituency.
Being a Contractor in the past and former Roads and Buildings Minister I have a lot of experience and I can ascertain sub-standard material at first sight. This is shame. GREF which had been assigned the job of construction of nearly 200 KM vulnerable road from Batote to Kishtwar-Sinthan Top is indulging in corruption, Saroori told CNS.
Saroori said that after witnessing the use of sand and mud in construction work from Kishtwar to Thathri, he was shocked that GREF contractors not only use the substandard material in construction work, but also use the same material in construction of drains and protection walls threatening the safety of passengers who travel on this National Highway.
He gathered some samples of substandard material and handed over the same to district administration for analysis. Saroori also appealed to the Chief Minister J&K and National Highway authorities of India to initiate a thorough probe in this regard. (CNS)
