Budgam: Peoples Democratic Party Sunday hoped that Chief Minister who is also the Home Minister of Jammu and Kashmir would not extend the lease of Tosa Maidan.

PDP legislator and MLA Beeru Dr Muhammad Shafi said all eyes were on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and people of Beeru are expecting that Chief Minister would relieve them and would not extend the lease to Army.

“I on behalf of people of Central Kashmir humbly request Chief Minister to make use of his power and position and did not extend the lease to Army. There are other alternatives and Army could be shifted to somewhere else,” he said.

Dr Shafi said that it would be disastrous for the people if lease of Tosa Maidan would be extended to Army. “Its repercussions would be dangerous and it would become difficult for the government to curb protests and demonstrations,” he said.

Tosa Maidan is a picturesque meadow near Gulmarg and locals want it turned into a tourist resort. Army has turned the meadow into firing range zone for last several decades.
