Srinagar: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Member Parliament Dr. Mehboob Beig today said that the only option for pre-poll alliance left for NC is Congress and that he personally believes that coalition is the way forward to run the government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to KNS, Beig said that the recent meeting of NC’s central committee decided that the party president shall talk to Congress high command if the situation demands any pre-poll alliance in the coming assembly elections.

“Congress is our only option for alliance, we cannot partner with BJP. We regret that earlier we have done that,” said Beig while adding that the statements of Mustafa Kamal wherein the later keeps on flaying Congress party, are Kamal’s personal opinions. “Everyone has his personal opinion and I have my own, Every opinion should be respected.”

Talking about the recent remarks made by the former Army chief,Gen.V.K.Singh,Beigh  said that his remarks have degraded the political institutions of Jammu and Kashmir. “It is the need of the hour to be united and nullify Gen.Singh’s statements.”

Mehboob beigh who is the Parliament member from South Kashmir further stated that Public safety act (PSA) is the ‘unfortunate step’ being taken during  ‘unfortunate times’. “who wants that Geelani sb to be prevented from offering Friday prayers  but we know that his release would create law and order situation and that we cannot afford the loss of precious lives,” Said Beigh adding that PSA is the compulsion of the time and it is for the stability of the state. “we earlier saw how Mirwaiz Umar was allowed to take out the procession on Eid-ul-fitr in 2010 and how Lal Chowk burned,” Beig said adding that the government cannot risk the lives of its people.

Claiming that no one in the present time is the undisputed leader like Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Beig said that it is the need of the hour to evolve consensus among all the parties including separatists so that serious issues prevailing in the state could be resolved amicably. “It is unfortunate that we involve third party in our affairs, mainstream and pro-freedom camp should together sit on the table and resolve issues like PSA, Armed forces special powers act (AFSPA) and  Indus water treaty”
