Restrictions not required: DC Shopian

SRINAGAR: Various political, religious and social organizations of Shopian today reiterated their protest and shutdown call for Friday the October 4.

The protest call has been given against civilian killings by CRPF personnel on September 7 and 11.

The locals of Shopian demanded relocation of Gagran CRPF camp and registration of FIR against the guilty. As per the protest programme, the people of Shopian have decided to assemble at the main Chowk after Friday prayers to stage a sit-in from 2 to 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the residents have demanded that all the youth who have so far been detained  by the police in connection with the recent protests should be released forthwith.

Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, when contacted said: “Actually there is a cabinet direction to DGP for relocation of CRPF and we are on it. A portion of the Camp has already been shifted to District Police Lines.”

Asked if there would be any restrictions imposed by the district administration in view of the sit-in programme, Bhat said: “We had not imposed any restriction on last Friday and I don’t think it is required tomorrow as well.”
