Encounter Breaks Out In City Outskirts

SRINAGAR: A policeman was injured in an encounter that broke out between militants and joint team of Special Operation Group of police (SOG) and CRPF in outskirt’s of the capital city late Wednesday evening.

“On a tip-off about militant presence, Special Operation Group of Police (SOG) and CRPF cordoned off the Ahmed Nagar area of Batspora in Srinagar district late this evening and launched searches,” Official sources said.

The militants, who the forces believe could be two in number, hiding inside the residential house came under heavy fire from the militants which were retaliated triggering a gunfight, sources said.

During the initial gunfight a PSO, Ashiq Hussain of SDPO Srinagar sustain bullet injuries and he has been hospitalized, sources said.

The encounter was going on with reports of exchange of heavy gunfire when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, joint team of army and police arrested a local trained Hizul Mujahedeen militant in North Kashmir’s Sopore town.

Official sources said that acting on a specific information army’s 22 RR and SOG during a raid near New Colony in Sopore and arrested a HM militant identified as Nisar Ahmad Shah of Shalpora Sopore.
