Srinagar: Panic gripped at Hyderpora-Sanat Nagar Bypass after unknown gunman reportedly fired some shots on Saturday afternoon. Eyewitnesses said that some gunshots were heard and soon after Security Forces, including Army personnel cordoned off the Bypass and its adjacent colonies.
Inspector General of Police, Abdul Gani Mir told reporters that they are investigating the matter. Its all speculation and premature to say anything. We are investigating the matter, he said.
Eyewitnesses said that people ran for their lives after they heard some gunshots. I thought militants might have attacked the Army convoy and we all ran for cover. Suddenly, Army and security personnel cordoned off the area and launched combing operation, a mechanic working in an automobile workshop said.
Top police officials including IGP Kashmir Abdul Gani Mir, DIG Central Kashmir Afhadul Mujtaba and SSP Srinagar Syed Aashiq Hussain Bukhari visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
A police official said that it is mere speculation that the gunman who reportedly fired upon security personnel was riding on a motorcycle. We are investigating the matter, he said.
Reports said that a resident from South Kashmirs Noorpora area of Tral town Ishfaq Ahmed son of Ghulam Rasool was injured when he slipped after running for cover.
No person has received bullet injury. One civilian was injured accidently who is stable, IGP Kashmir said. (CNS)
