Thrashes locals, damaged vehicles
KULGAM: CRPF personnel went on a rampage in South Kashmirs Kulgam district and beat pedestrians, including non-Kashmiri laborers to pulp on Monday.
It was the timely action on part of the police officials that people were saved from the wrath of visibly angry CRPF men.
Eyewitnesses said that CRPF men deployed in Kulgam Chowk thrashed people mercilessly and smashed the window panes of private vehicles. CRPF men were seen beating everyone whosoever came in their way. They even did not spare media personnel and snatched cameras from them.
A video posted by a Kulgam resident on social networking site, Facebook showed how CRPF men thrashed locals and even thrashed Bihari laborers walking along the road. The video shows a CRPF man smashing the side mirror of a load carrier.
My camera was snatched by angry CRPF men and all the photograph which I had shot were deleted by these men. They hurled abuses on us and barred us from covering their atrocities, a photojournalist working for a local daily.
Reports said that top police officials reached Kulgam Chowk to ensure free movement of people. It was only in the presence of these police officers that people dared to walk along the road, a resident said.
When contacted Public Relations Officer, CRPF, Kishor Prasad said that people might have done something wrong which may have compelled our men to retaliate. Some youth set the net covering the Bunker on fire. CRPF acted to disperse those youth, he said. (CNS)
