Zubin Mehta Concert Will Not Change K-Issue: Omar
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday came in defence of Zubin Mehta musical concert to be held on September 7 in Srinagar saying that such events wont affect the Kashmir issue as music was part of Kashmiri culture.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Rajbhawan here Omar said, Music is part of Kashmiriyat, so projecting the concert as if something was being done against the Kashmiriyat is wrong. Zubins concert wont affect the Kashmir issue, he said. Either separatist leadership is weak or Kashmir issue is so weaker that a musical concert would affect its nature. If this single event would affect the nature of Kashmir issue by any means, Kashmir wont be treated as a political issue any more, once the event would be over.
The Chief Minister said concerts like the one to be held at Shalimar would help people of Kashmir to get exposed to outside world. It is a German Embassys effort to help Kashmiris get connect with the people across the globe. Music was well within the limits of Kashmiriyat. It is in our culture, he said.
ON INDIA-PAK RELATIONS
Though it was not clear as to whether the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan would meet on the sidelines of a conference in New York, but I hope that the two leaders should meet. We have issues with Pakistan which can only be resolved through talks, he said.
Omar also praised the ruling National Conference-Congress coalition saying that all is well with the government. He added that the NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah would take the final call about as to whether there should be an alliance with the Congress in the upcoming Assembly and Parliamentary polls slated for 2014.
