SRINAGAR: Authorities have sounded high alert across State while tight security arrangements have been made in and around Bakhshi stadium here where the main function of August 15 will be held on Thursday. Apart from Bakhshi stadium tight security arrangements have also been made all across valley.
Inspector General Police (IGP) Kashmir Abdul Gani Mir said that they are taking all the proactive measures to ensure that Independence Day celebrations pass on peacefully. Security forces have been alerted to prevent any untoward incident, he said.
A senior police officer said that high security arrangements have been put in place in valley. Senior officers have been assigned the job of monitoring the movement in and outside the Stadium which has been handed over to highly trained forces for ensuring complete security during the function, he said.
Sharp shooters on high rise buildings in different areas around the stadium have been put in place for security reasons to stop any untoward incident. The movement of people is being closely monitored, he added.
In Srinagar policemen and CRPF personnel were searching vehicles in different localities. Police was also checking vehicles coming from other districts at Parimpora, Bemina, Qamrwari and other places. The August 15 functions would also be held at district headquarters including Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara, Shopian, Kulgam and Budgam.
Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in Lal Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Jehangir Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Maisuma, Dalgate and other area of Srinagar to thwart any untoward incident.. Armored vehicles of police and paramilitary forces were seen at many road junctions.
Security has also been beefed up in north Kashmir areas of Sopore, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora and Handwara. Army also carried out checking of vehicles in different areas.
