New Delhi: Central paramilitary forces have been rushed to Kishtwar town following communal clashes in the region Friday, R.P.N. Singh, Minister of State for Home Affairs here said.
“Forces rushed to Kishtwar. We are coordinating with J&K government and assisting in every way possible,” Singh wrote on social networking website Twitter.
“Five companies from Jammu have been rushed to Kishtwar, where clashes broke out between two communities,” a police officer said in Jammu.
Two companies of CRPF and three companies of Indian Reserve Police and Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police were rushed to the district, the officer said.
“Situation is very tense and efforts are being made to bring it under control,” he said.
Curfew was imposed and two columns of the army were deployed in Kishtwar town Friday after about 500 villagers raised pro-independence slogans that led to clashes between two communities.
