SRINAGAR: Senior National Conference leader Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal Thursday accused coalition partner Congress party of settling non-state subjects in Jammu division to strengthen its vote bank.
Kamal, who is additional general secretary of the party said Congress party took undue advantage of the militancy prevailing in Kashmir Valley and helped non-permanent subjects to get settled in different colonies in Jammu.
Government in no way is going to regularize any such colonies in Kashmir. No such colony exists in Kashmir Valley and these colonies have come up in Jammu only, he said adding that all efforts would be made to ensure that these people dont get any voting rights.
It is a well established fact that when militancy was at its peak in Kashmir division, Congress played a major part in getting these non-permanent subjects settled in various colonies, he said.
While replying to a question, Kamal said that Syed Ali Geelani should not make an issue out of it in Kashmir as such colonies are temporary in nature. The government in Kashmir wants to provide the slum dwellers a hygienic atmosphere so that they cant become a health problem for the people. These colonies if ever exists would be temporary and not permanent in nature. (CNS)
