SRINAGAR: Prominent members of Kashmiri civil society, who met here today to deliberate and reflect upon recent untoward incidents in central district of Budgam, denounced the infighting and violence perpetrated in the name of religion.
The concerned individuals, from both Shia and Sunni communities associated with different professions, resolved that Kashmiri society will not accept the division in the name of sects or ethnicity and demanded that those who aided and abetted Budgam violence be identified, exposed and brought to justice.
Demanding an immediate end to hate speeches from the pulpits against all sections and opinions of Muslims, meeting unanimously resolved that people of J & K shall not fall prey to machinations of unscrupulous elements locally, regionally and internationally.
The meeting held under the aegis of Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) later unanimously passed a resolution.
Resolution
A cross section of concerned individuals met today to deliberate and reflect upon the painful and tragic situation obtaining in some areas of Budgam district. People reflected opinions of various school of thought, discussed the issue threadbare and resolved;
1. That we unequivocally condemn the recent occurrences of infighting and violence perpetrated in the name of so called sects.
2. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family members of the bereaved lady, who lost her life as a consequence of tragic infighting.
3. We express our sympathy with all the injured men and women in this senseless and purposeless violence.
4. We sympathise and express our deep anguish at the loss of property that included shops, houses, cowsheds, orchards and agriculture fields.
5. The meeting unanimously resolved that we refuse to accept division of Kashmiris in the name of sects and Maslaks. No pigeonholing of people in terms of region, class, caste or ethnic or linguistic consideration will be entertained.
6. People who resorted to violence against fellow Muslims and people who aided and abetted them should be identified, marginalised, named and shamed and brought to justice speedily.
7. Steps should be taken at the earliest by the civil society and all saner and enlightened elements to restore confidence among the affected people and repair trust amongst the aggrieved.
8. It was unanimously resolved that people of J & K shall not fall prey to machinations of unscrupulous elements locally, regionally and internationally.
9. It was resolved that hate speeches from pulpits against all sections and opinions of Muslims be stopped forthwith and tolerance amongst various points of view be encouraged.
10. It was unanimously decided that a fact-finding delegation from the civil society will visit the affected areas to find out the whole truth about the infighting in order to evolve strategies to prevent recurrence of such incurrence in future it was also decided to conduct a peace march in the affected areas.
