SRINAGAR: A Pakistani soldier was killed and another injured as armies of India and Pakistan traded fire along the Line of Control in Poonch district Saturday morning.
However, both the armies have denied triggering the fire and blamed each other for the incident that has created panic among the residents of the area.
There has been a cease-fire violation by the Pak troops on Line of Control in the Doda Battalion area of Poonch Sector without any provocation from Indian side at 0730 hrs today, defense ministery spokesman S N Acharya, said.
Pak troops opened unprovoked firing with RPG, mortars, small arms and MMG, he said. There was no casualty to Indian troops, he said.
Our troops exercised utmost restraint and calibrated response given to Pak firing, he said, adding Intermittent firing was going on till the last report came in.
Meanwhile, as per the reports, Pakistan’s chief military spokesman Maj Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa has said that a Pakistani soldier was killed and another injured in firing by Indian forces along the LoC.
Bajwa said the firing by Indian troops was unprovoked and had targeted Pakistani posts in Rawlakot area on the LoC.
Our soldier, Asim Iqbal of Rawalpindi, was killed and his colleague Naik Muhammad Khan was injured in the unprovoked firing, he said. Islamabad is expected to take the matter up with India, the report said.
