SRINAGAR: In a gruesome incident two children were slaughtered and their mother injured by assailants in a Srinagar suburb this morning. The children and their mother were attacked at dawn today when their father, a prayer leader (Imam), was away in his mosque.
Iftekhar Ahmad, Imam of Iqbalabad (Bemina) mosque, said when he rturned home after prayers he found his wife Naseema and children Mohammad Hasim (two years) and Aalia (three years) lying in pool of blood with their slit throats.
He rushed them to hospital where attending doctors pronounced the son and the daughter as brought dead,” police sources said. Condition of Naseema was critical, they added.
Iftekhar Ahmad belongs to the border town of Gurez in Bandipore district of north Kashmir.
Motive behind the assault was not immediately known. However police has registered a case of murder. Forensic evidence is being collected to nab the attackers, they said.
