PATTAN: Police Sunday claimed it has arrested a Peoples Democratic Party Sarpanch on charges of stone-pelting in North Kashmirs Palhalan area.
Police claimed that the Palhalan Sarpanch Mohammad Akbar Bhat, a resident of Bhat Mohalla, was spotted stone-pelting on police during protests in Palhalan area. Police immediately swung into action and arrested the said Sarpanch. The accused belongs to PDP, a police official said.
A case vide FIR number184/2013 has been registered against the accused. Meanwhile, the family members of the Sarpanch alleged that Mohammad Akbar is innocent and he was being implicated in a false case. How could an elderly Sarpanch come on road and pelt stones on police. This is hard to swallow, they said.
