NEW DELHI: India-Pakistan dialogue is going to be resumed from a point it was left at before the suspension of the process due to some border incidents, and then because of the process of political transition in Pakistan.
Indications of early resumption of the dialogue were given here today by the Ministry of External Affairs when its Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin while replying to a question said,”we are awaiting the dates for different aspects of the resumed dialogue, and that is the dialogue that we have been pursuing so far.”
He was asked whether at a meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s special adviser Sartaj Aziz and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid in Brunei, it had decided that India would resume the format of Composite Dialogue process with Pakistan.
Mr Akbaruddin said the resumed dialogue started immediately in September 2012, and that was the third round of the dialogue which began with the meetings of the Commerce Secretaries.
Subsequent to that, there were meetings relating to the Tulbul Navigation Project and the Wullar Barrage scheduled for February, but that did not take place as the Indian lead negotiator in that was unable to continue because he was retiring at the end of January.
“Therefore, we had requested for fresh dates. Those were the only two elements of the resumed dialogue that were agreed on.
“There remain other elements of the resumed dialogue where we now have to work on dates, and that is the issue that is being discussed and focused on,” he added.
