KULGAM: Police said a youth carrying a live grenade to the District Hospital Kulgam managed to gave a slip after he was stopped at the main gate leaving behind the explosive device there on Friday.
Reports said that Army personnel stopped a youth near the main gate of Kulgam District Hospital, however, before the Army could do anything, the youth fled from the spot and made an entry into the hospital.
Sensing trouble, Army personnel from 9 RR, SOG and 18 Battalion CRPF laid a siege around the hospital. Army personnel took positions outside the hospital while a large contingent of Army and SOG personnel entered into the hospital and started search operations.
The attendants, patients and para-medical staff was frisked and their identity cards were thoroughly checked. However, no one was arrested.
Eyewitnesses said that the Army personnel recovered a live grenade on the stairs of the Hospital. Police sources said that the militant who was present in the Hospital might have left the live grenade.
A police official said that as soon as the Army and security men cordoned off the Hospital, there was panic and people started leaving the hospital in a hurry and it is quite possible that present militant might have managed to escape that time.
