Bevy of women, affluent people visited his centre: Sarpanch
BUDGAM: Sarpanch Shamsabad Khansahab Friday claimed that self-styled Dervish Gulzar Bhat was planning to escape from Kashmir by air to evade arrest.
He said 70 per cent population of Shamsabad were up in arms against the quack. However the support and assistance, Gulzar garnered from different unknown affluent quarters forced people not to take initiative against him.
Sarpanch Ghulam Mohiuddin said he along with Sarpanch Hawoora, Altaf Ahmed, one time disciple of Gulzar, handed over self-styled Dervish to police when he was planning to flee from the state. Altaf Ahmed who now abhors him persuaded Gulzar to surrender before police because there were apprehension that his followers may resort to violence if police raided his centre. Gulzar thought that police will receive him warmly, since it was the directions of the court so police had no option but to act and arrest him, he said.
Sarpanch said that he and Altaf handed over Gulzar to DySP headquarters, Aijaz Ahmed.
Gulzar was in no mood to surrender and was trying to evade arrest but somehow we managed to take him to police. This self-styled dervish is ignorant and illiterate and still people followed him blindly. The majority in Shamsabad abhor him but the outsiders supported him financially and persuaded naïve boys and girls to join their ranks. He was not running a religious centre but a sex-centre. We people are surprised where from he received all this money and purchased so many vehicles, he said and added that one person from Srinagar was taking care of his wealth and every day bevy of ladies and up to date personalities used to visit him in brand-new vehicles.
Local people never supported him but he (Gulzar) established his centre with the help of local Auqaf Committee members who enjoyed monetary benefits from the self-styled pir. Police should question these members on what grounds they supported Gulzar blindly, he said.
He said that local Auqaf Committee members encouraged him from time to time and played a key role in getting new girls admitted into the Centre.
It is this local Auqaf Committee members who were motivating the girls and boys not to leave the Centre even after the arrest of Gulzar Ahmed Bhat.
Sarpanch Ghulam Mohinddin while appreciating the role of Police in this matter said that police must question these girl students and arrest all his close aides. A police officer told me that one of the close-aides of Gulzar Bhat has admitted about the wrong-doings of Gulazar and is ready to reveal his dark-side, he said adding that people in the area are eager to know which agency backed this thug and they are expecting that police will expose him fully.
