SRINAGAR: President, Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCIK), Kashmir, Mr. Mohammad Shafi along with the other office bearers called on the Director Handicrafts, Ms. Salma Hamid here today.
Among various issues, the menace of the fake and spurious Kashmir Handicrafts being sold in the name of the genuine handicrafts was discussed threadbare.
It was decided that stern action against the erring dealers and hawkers that pass on the fake goods in the name of genuine Kashmir handicrafts.
The Director assured the delegation that the Department has activated its quality control wing and recently an officer of the rank of Deputy Director was assigned the job to monitor the wing who shall report directly to the Director Handicrafts.
The delegation also put forth the demand of the marketing support in terms of more exhibitions and fairs in and outside the state besides for making the Directorate of Handicrafts as a nodal agency for organization of Buyer seller meets and for implementation of all centrally sponsored schemes.
The Director informed the delegation about the measures initiated for arresting the decline of the production of the handmade carpets especially about the mechanized carpet looms that are being provided free of cost to carpet artisans.
