SRINAGAR: The Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad has appreciated the role of Railway Police for inculcating sense of security among the railway personnel and commuters in the valley. He also lauded the Northern Railways for facilitating the railway police by providing infrastructure and other requirements in the state.
Prasad was speaking while commissioning the Zonal Railway Police Headquarters at Nowgam, here this morning. He said that with the inception of train services in the valley, Jammu and Kashmir Police has been entrusted additional responsibilities to ensure the safety of railway tracks as well as commuters and deal with the crime pertaining to railway premises. He said that the new Zonal office will enhance the working facilities for the police besides improving the delivery of public service in the valley. It will facilitate the passengers to report any crime promptly and the police to respond quickly to any emergent situation, he added.
Referring to the coordinated efforts put by Northern Railways and J & K Railway Police for maintaining the railway services in the state, the DGP said that the service has benefited the common people particularly the working class and student community at large and it is responsibility of all sections of society to ensure the safety of railway tracks and other railway properties. He said that it was only due to coordinated efforts of Northern Railways and Jammu and Kashmir Police that the railways service was provided making the journey for commuters convenient. The service has enhanced the developmental activities in the valley and in future the railway service would be playing a key role in the development of the state, said the DGP.
Stressing upon the officers present on the occasion for coordinated synergy, Prasad said that our motive should be uninterrupted and safe train service for the passengers. He emphasised upon the officers of Northern Railway and JKP to work shoulder to shoulder for the betterment of the society. He asked them to beef up the security system regularly for the railways and its employees and assured that sufficient man power with required logistic support would be provided to the Railway Police for proper deployment to ensure security of the passengers and the assets of railways.
