SRINAGAR: Blaming Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Syed for the killing of late Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq, senior National Conference (NC) leader and Rural Development Minster Ali Mohammad Sagar Tuesday said that the contribution of late Mirwaiz in bringing a positive change in religious and political scenario of Valley could never be ignored.
Mirwaiz Farooq was not only a religious scholar but also a well influenced politician and his martyrdom has defiantly created a void, Sagar said in his address to a function organized by the NC at his official residence to observe late Mirwaizs death anniversary.
Sagar without naming PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Syed who was Union Home Minster, at the time Molvi Farooq killing in 1990 said, Then Home Minster (Mufti) was requested to provide protection to late Mirwaiz following the intelligence inputs of a threat to his life, but he did not deliberately do that which resulted in a tragic end to a stalwart spiritual leader.
The Panchayti Raj Minster termed Molvi Farooq as the grand martyr and said, The martyrdom of late Molvi Farooq would always figure at the top of those who gained martyrdom since 1931.
Sagar without mentioning name, castigated opposition PDP and said that it (PDP) was responsible for all major massacres that took place since 1990 in the state.
That party which terms NC as divisive force is actually responsible for all the massacres that took place in state since 1990, Sagar alleged.
The senior NC leader while recounting the achievements of late Mirwaiz said, Mirwaiz Farooq sahib always worked for unity among different thoughts of people and never hesitated in attending conferences or seminars of rivals. In 1965 when Sheikh (Mohammad Abdullah) sahib called a peoples conference at Mujahid Manzil late Mirwaiz sahib himself attended that.
When double Farooq accord was signed in 1980s late Mirwaiz sahib played a pivotal role to end Sher-Bakra clashes, he added.
Meanwhile, senior NC leader and Minster of state for PHE, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi and MLA Zadibal Peer Afaq Ahmad were among various speakers who spoke on the occasion and paid tributes to late Mirwaiz.
