Srinagar: Department of Sociology, University of Kashmir is organizing 10-day research methodology course for Ph D students from May 21 to 30. The course is being sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).
The inaugural session of the workshop will be held in the seminar room of the Gandhi Bhavan, University of Kashmir on Tuesday. Around 40 participants from across the country are expected to take part in the course, besides faculty members, Ph. D scholars of social science and other allied courses from different universities of the valley.
The course would mainly target research scholars (General/ST/SC/OBCs/Minorities) pursuing Ph. D in various streams of social sciences to develop a comprehensive understanding of scientific methodology and its application in social science, said Head, Department of Sociology KU and Course Director, Prof Bashir Ahmad Dabla.
He said the course would provide a critical overview of the concepts and theories of research methodology used in scientific research. It will help in formulation of proposals for different academic assignments in order to create a scientific orientation among the participants. Research methodology in social sciences is dynamic in nature and preparing and submitting a research proposal or publishing a scientific paper has become a challenging job. We aim to train the participants about the use of statistical techniques in order to enlighten social phenomena in Social Science disciples, Prof. Dabla added.
The organizers of the course maintain that the need to impart expertise and skills in social research is increasingly being experienced and the situation has posed several methodological challenges and dilemmas before the mature and budding Social Scientists.
Prof Dabla said it becomes vital for them to develop an expertise in the concerned fields and the Research methodology course seems to be the need of the hour.
