GANDERBAL: Annual inter-school athletic meet concluded here at Madr-i-Meharban sports stadium popularly known as Qamaria stadium Ganderbal today. This four day event had begun on March 14.
The athletic meet organized by district youth services and sports department Ganderbal was conducted for both boys and girls of under 14, under 17 and under 19 categories and a total of 900 school going athletes including 500 boys and 400 girls from all zones of the district participated in the event.
Boys Higher Secondary School Wakura lifted the overall champion trophy in boys category whereas Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Ganderbal received the same in girls category. Ashfaq Ahmad of BHSS Wakura and Shagufta Hassan of GHSS Ganderbal bagged the best athlete awards.
Chief guest of the function, Sanaullah Mir Chief Education Officer Ganderbal while speaking on the occasion appreciated all the participants and the youth services officials for promoting sports culture in school education. He ensured that the general staff of all the schools of the district will give full co-operation to physical education faculties so that sports talents are enhanced to reach new heights.
Principal Govt. College of physical education, Dr. Hartej Singh who attended the closing ceremony as the guest of honour said that his department has always been busy to produce highly skilled and talented sports personalities and so they will always provide their best support to expose and nourish budding sportsmen.
Principals of all Higher educational institutions of the district were also present on the occasion.
