BANDIPORE: About 257 quintals of honey production has been recorded in Bandipore district during last fiscal, with the result revenue of over Rs. 80 lakh was generated by way of bee-keeping.
This was stated at a function of Agriculture department here today during which 110 Bee-Colonies were distributed among the farmers through draw of lots under Rashtriya Kissan Vikas Yojana (RKVY). The department of Agriculture provided a subsidy component of Rs. 2.20 lakh on these colonies to the progressive farmers.
The Chief Agriculture Officer, Bandipore on the occasion informed that 370 Bee-Colonies are being provided to the farmers through draw of lots under RKVY, Tribal Sub Plan, Technology Mission and District Sector during current financial year in the district and the Bee-Colonies have been procured from the local market instead of outside the State. The Bee-Keepers presently having 3670 such colonies are earning their livelihood in the district, he added.
